Audi A4 a6 issues with the transmission control module (tcm). My 2005 A4 car had approx 45,000 miles when the check engine light came on. I was taking the car in for am oil change so I had them check the issue with the engine light. I was told that it was the tcm and the car was registering faulty safety codes. This video will show you how to locate the gearbox code for your Audi or VW. Suitable for the majority of Audi and Volkswagen models.Looking for tools? Audi may consider the automatic transmission fluid in your A4 to be good for the life of the car, but that only means it is good for the lifetime of the warranty. It does need to be changed occasionally in order to keep the transmission as well as torque converter working properly and shifting smooth. By Bassem Girgis - March 30, 2016. 1. 10mm bolt. When you remove this you will probably find that you cannot slide the joint off of the rod. What you have to do is twist it back and forth while pulling. It will come out.
  2. 8mm allen bolt. Little room to work with but can be done.

A new transmission mount for Audi A4 Quattro keeps the alignment of your ride's driveshafts and axles in place, ensuring a smooth, comfortable ride, and it also stabilizes the transmission, which in turn makes gear transmissions smooth and seamless. Shop AutoZone's line of premium-quality A4 Quattro transmission mounts and in addition to.

14. Remove the bolts from the front axles (at the transmission side) by using a 8mm triple square bit. A nice tip that I got from someone else is to tap the bits with a hammer to make sure that it is all the way in. Follow up by disconnecting the axles from the transmission. In my case, once all of the bolts were out the axles would not disconnect. I took a big hammer and hit it a couple times and it broke free. Set the axles on top of the transmission mounts.

15. Final step is to remove the transmission mounts. Place the jack under the transmission and remove the 3 bolts holding each mount in place. The metal brackets can stay attached to the transmission.

16. Double check that everything has been removed and get ready for the scary part. Slide the transmission back so that the input shaft clears the pressure plate and then drop it down. Transmission jack is a nice tool to have but you can still do it with a regular jack.

Shot of the pressure plate

Shot of the flywheel.

Stock clutch is toast. At the time of this repair, the car had roughly 94,000 miles.

There is a big debate on whether to resurface and reuse the original flywheel or buy a new flywheel. While I chose to have mine resurfaced I still recommend that you buy a new flywheel. When you resurface the flywheel you run the risk of throwing it off balance. The springs in the flywheel wear out as well and require a flywheel replacement as well. Spend a little more now and save yourself the headache of doing everything over again later. At this point I wanted to replace the rear main seal and the input shaft seal. Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2008 Audi A4 3

It happens when I turn the car on and I go to park it. When I pass reverse. It seems to happen a lot more often after it rains. My transmission is going into limp mode due to a major fault. Code p0706: transmission range sensor circuit range/performance the transmission range sensor tells the tcm the position of the gear lever. It also contains a neutral safety switch, which ensures that you can only start your car in neutral or park. Potential causes for this code to set are: faulty transmission range sensor misadjusted transmission range sensor open or shorted transmission range sensor harness faulty pcm it happens to a lot of the A4 Audi's. Its dangerous and its not anything that owners of the Audis did or did not do. I have never neglected my car. It is something that is enevatable because it was caused during the manufacturing.

The transmission control module, a computerized part that could jam the transmission, is failing in my car, it's $3100 to fix including labor and material, but I feel it's a safety violation, especially considering the class action lawsuit covering 2002-2006 a-4 Audis stemming from the same defective part.

The park, reverse, neutral, drive display flashes which indicates that the vehicle is running in caution mode. The vehicle does not run in reverse and while the vehicle is moving it seems as if it wants to change gears such as from drive to neutral. My research indicates that this was a common problem with the 2008 models. My research also indicates that the problem is the transmission control module. I am not aware if this problem affected other year models or if Audi corrected the problem after 2008. I purchased the vehicle in July of 2016 with the problem and the dealership informed me that it was a recall problem. When I recently took the vehicle to a Audi dealership they informed me that it was not a recall problem. The dealership information sounds false since this is a safety issue. I am making this complaint to see if an investigation is warranted for me and other owners of the 2008 Audi A4.

Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2005 Audi A4 6

We are the 2nd owner of an Audi A4 convertible, purchased in November of 2010 with 25k miles. Within two years, we began to have problems with the cvt transmission and had to have the tcm replaced, which was later reimbursed by Audi as a result of a class-action lawsuit. In January of 2014, at 38k miles, Audi diagnosed the transmission as defective and needing replacement, transmission slipping when cold, vehicle shuddering. On complaint to Audi, they agreed to cover 50% of the costs, which would be approximately $7,000 which resulted in my wife being afraid to drive the vehicle in cold weather. Replace the transmission at half cost. At 47k miles, again cold weather, the problem has worsened, vehicle often won't reverse and transmission locks up unexpectedly. As the vehicle cannot be driven safely, my wife will not drive it until it is safe again. As there is documented evidence of known issues with this transmission (us district court # cv11-00665 bro agrx), Audi should be held responsible for 100% of the costs to repair and cvt transmission which results in a vehicle being unsafe to operate.

Purchased the vehicle in March 2012. Aproxiamately 4 months later the 'check engine ' light came on . Had the codes checked and main code came back p0722 which dirrected me to a 'dealership only' repair. It was told to me tha t the tcm was bad and needed replacing. I find out Audi initially used a faulty plastic part that they were aware of would fail. I called Audi USA for assistance and they worked out a 15% discount with the dealership and no assistance from Audi USA. I informed them that I still feel very strongly that if this is a continuing problem with Audi transmissions then they should cover full cost of this problem.

I first had a check engine light pop on my 04 Audi A4 cvt the code number 17090, then flashing pndr indicator lights. After doing many hours of research and hearing other stories about Audi cvt issues, I came to a conclusion that the issue lies within the tcm (transmission computer) and has a faulty part that goes bad. I did not have the funds to repair this issue so I have been driving the car, caution this failure will cause loss of reverse at any given moment and sometimes drive. I did have a close call when I was backing out of my drive way and the car stopped moving, all of a sudden I didn't have reverse and the car that was down the road wasn't wanting to slow down, he did end up stopping for me but was pissed off, and I was too, no reason for a 40,000 mile car to have issues like this. Audi quotes this repair at $2500. It seems like every single Audi produced in that same time period with a cvt transmission has this issue and should be considered a manufactures defect and should be recalled so they are responsible for the costs. Audi has denied me to help with these cost, but I know have help others out, so they are defiantly aware of there issue.

Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2005 Audi A4 9

There is a huge problem it seems with the transmission control module (tcm). Apparently most Audi vehicles will have a problem with it and the repairs are costing the consumers big money. A new one from the dealer costs around 1100-1200. 00 dollars and they are used to seeing this problem and don't think its a big deal. . . Why should we pay if its a problem that they are aware about and ultimately comes down to a bad service by them knowing and not helping pay for a regular problem caused by them???.

Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2003 Audi A4 10

Suddenly, while driving on freeway, went to low gear speed and not able to move car. I already change the transmission @ 42,000 miles at Audi dealership. This is Audi cvt transmission. It has very bad reliability records. You can see a lot of complaints, a especially about tcm module. Transmission repair shops just refuse to repair this type of transmission. The only choice is Audi dealership. The dealership price is about $8,500 for manufacturing rebuild transmission. However, the most important is the safety. I would not like that anyone was injured on the road because of malfunction of this transmission. It just matter of time and transmission will be broken and somebody got hurt.

Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2004 Audi A4 11

The vehicle according to the Audi dealer has a bad automatic tcm transmission control module that causes the car to slip gears or not shift down when coming slowing down and then needing to accelerate. The vehicle will stay locked in 3rd gear and when pulling out on to the freeway or a busy street it makes it difficult to get up to speed. When parked on a slanted driveway or street the vehicle may not engage a gear once it has been selected and the car will roll down hill.

Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2003 Audi A4 12

2003 Audi A4 tcm failure almost led to a serious accident. Was backing out of a driveway on a semi-busy road in winter park, FL when the transmission control module gave out on my 2003 Audi A4 cvt transmission. The car lost all power and just would rev. But not move in reverse. I had to quickly throw it in drive and head into oncoming traffic until being able to get inot the proper lane. After driving home, I noticed that this is random and there is no logic to when it occurs. The problem is an intermittent electrical tcm problem in which signal 'drops' for a short period of time. I did a search online about theis issue with the 2003 cvt transmission from auid and the tcm shorting out while driving is a very common issue. I see this as a safety issue and definaltely hold the auto manufacturuer at fault. Audi has recalled these tcm's for their a6 and a8 line that year which uses many of the same components. Why has the 2003 A4 cvt not been recalled then. It has the same issues. Tcm failure and faults due to improper electrical connections and clutch pack failure becuase the transmission cannot handle the power or weight of the car. That is why from 2005 and on the cvt comes with 7 clutch plates. Bottom line is that if this issue is not addressed in the 2003 Audi A4 cvt and you do not recall this year and version tcm (and maybe even the tranny itself) people will die in accidents that were no fault of their own. I am headed to the Audi website and any others who will take my complaint about this issue. I see it up there with a stuck accelerator. If you cant control speeding up or slowing down and the problem is faulty electrical thus happening intermitently how can you stay in control of your vehicle?.

I was informed that if I did not get it fixed the car could shut off while driving or the transmission could burn up while driving. I asked way there had not been a recall as it was a safety issue if the car could shut down while driving causing severe injury or even death. The university Audi service repr (jordan) stated it was up to Audi hq to make such a call. I asked if he had seen other issues. He stated yes that is why Audi came up with an updated part. I stated well if there was an updated part that means the old part was no good and a recall should have been issue. I called Audi hq and was informed that they track the frequency of part replace and determine a recall based on that. I replied what about safety and the death or injury of your customers. Why would you not evaluate an issue for recall based on safety? she indicated Audi values its customers, but relies on dealers to report issues. Sounds like everyone is in denial of who is responsible and accountable for the safety and lives of Audi car owners. Then, I was told the amount of more than $1800 dollars. I saw several complaints online about the tcm and cost of more than $2500. Now I know why they did not want to issue the recall, but instead update a part and charge its customers versus taking responsibility for the safety issue. I paid for the repairs, as it is my only source of transportation. I did not want to continue driving the car without the repairs as the dealer clearly stated there were safety concerns. Is this another hidden Toyota situation where the dealer is more concerned about profits over safety?.

Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2003 Audi A4 18

I have a 2003 Audi A4 3. 0 cabriolet with 38,000 miles on it. The gear display began to blink frequently and the manual shifting functionality would not work. Additionally, the transmission would not engage while in reverse on several occasions. The dealership informed me that the transmission control module (tcm) needed to be replaced at a cost of $2,400. After researching, I have seen many similar complaints and feel this may be due to a manufacturing defect, given low relative miles on the vehicle.

The vehicle sometimes does not go into reverse and jumps forward when applying brakes. The p r n d lights flash on the dashboard. The dealer says it needs a transmission control module (tcm).

Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2002 Audi A4 20

This vehicle is an Audi A4, 3. 0 automatic, 2nd owner, coming off a 3 yr. Lease in which all of the warranty work was performed by the dealer. The vehicle has 62,000 miles. There has been a complete mechanical failure of the transmission. The dealer says it must be replaced at a cost of $9,213. 72. During the warranty period. Records show that there were (3) occasions in which the owner complained about transmissions problems. On the first occasion, the dealer re-programmed the shift-control software. On the 2nd occasion the dealer removed and cleaned the connection terminals of the transmission control module (tcm). On the third occasion, the dealer replaced the (tcm). Then the vehicle went off-lease and the dealership sold it at auction to a used car dealer. Since then the car was sold to an unsuspecting customer and no history was ever produced which described the previous transmission problems. The transmission had some internal defect or problem which was never properly diagnosed by the dealership mechanics, and therefore it was just a matter of time before complete failure would occur. Of course, the dealership and Audi USA in michigan would have you believe that nothing was ever wrong with the transmission, only the (tcm). If that is the case, then why would complete transmission failure occur soon after the vehicle is off lease warranty, especially on a sealed unit, which these units are.

Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2003 Audi A4 21

Audi introduced the continuously variable transmission (cvt) to new automobiles about 2003. The cvt was touted as a highly reliable transmission in Audi sales brochures with less moving parts. The transmission contains a transmission control module (tcm) which fails early. I took my car in while under warranty with claims of the transmission 'hopping' and Audi took no action to correct. My car now has 150,000 miles on it and the tcm has failed completely. Upon reviewing several Audi forums, I have learned that this problem is extremely common and Audi has not acknowledged the problem. Many people with similar Audi's in year and with the same transmission have experience the failure. The fix is to have new tcm's installed at a cost of approximately $2,500, which requires the removal of the transmission to replace the tcm. While I have read many narratives of Audi owners experiencing this problem, I do not know if anyone has filed a complaint regarding this issue. It would appear that appropriate testing of the module was not conducted to a satisfactory level and components were installed with flaws. My understanding from research on this topic is that the same cvt was licensed to Nissan for installation within their vehicles and the same problems are occurring. I believe this to be a condition of manufacturer recall and correction at no cost to the owner. I have also heard of the problem from local mechanics.
